9 Wedding Planning Tips to Get You Started

Hey, you’re planning a wedding. That’s awesome! Congrats! Before you go popping yourself out there all willy-nilly like, you may want to brush up on some tips and hints. Here are a few that will help you get on your way to planning a great wedding:

  1. Determine How Many guests you’re going to invite.

Before you can choose a venue, determining catering costs, and so many other things, you need to get a realistic idea of how many people you’re going to invite. This will help narrow down the venues and know what to tell the caterer when they ask how many guests they’ll be feeding.  The basic rule of thumb is to have 25 to 30 square feet per guest. Seem like a lot? Not really when you’re considering space for tables, waiters, and a dance floor.

  1. Guard your dates against other events.

Wherever you’re considering holding your event, check the locale for other events that may be falling at the same time. Big events being held the same week or day of your big day can have a negative impact on traffic and the availability of accommodations for your out of town guests. Holidays, big sporting events, and even proms or graduations can lower guest availability, so be sure to be mindful and schedule your wedding accordingly.

  1. Watch the weather.

If it’s a hot summer wedding outdoors or an improperly heated winter situation, your guests are going to dip out early and probably talk bad about you. Insects can also be a problem during certain times of the year. Always be prepared for unexpected weather situations with a contingency plan.

  1. Let us help.

  1. Tighten your belt.

The easiest way to trim your wedding budget is by cutting your guest list. Generally speaking, at least half of your wedding expenses go towards guest related expenses. If the wedding is $100 smackers per person, you can save a whopping $1,000 by just leaving 10 folks off the guest list.

  1. Focus on organization

Whether you use Special Event Djz or not, you should always take detailed notes and keep copies of said notes from vendor meetings. Also create an analog folder for agreements, receipts, and the like. You’ll never know when those might come in handy. You should also keep links and pics from articles you’ve read to share with vendors to give them ideas of what you like.  Another great idea is to setup a special email address and contact list just for vendors and other wedding related stuff.

  1. Leave Some Room in Your Wallet

You want this day to be special, but you also don’t want it to break the bank. Have fun, go all out, but save a little bit for the start of your new life with your honey. That way you can take a few long weekends together, enjoy bunches of date nights, and keep that new romance flowing for a long time to come.

Hopefully, these 8 little tips have given you some food for thought as you plan your big day. Always keep in mind that we here at Special Event Djz is only an email or phone call away should you want some expert help with planning any event…especially your storybook wedding.
